The telephone is a device that allows sound to be transmitted through it and another person recieves the sound (usually human voice) on another telephone. But it is not just a machine that you can talk into to say hello. This important invention has changed communication forever. Telephones can be used during emergancies. For example you can call the fire department if there is a fire, call the police if there is a robber in your house, call someone you know if you are hurt, ect. This invention has also changed businesses. Now managers or business owners can call manufacturers, or employees. We also have the mobile phone, which allows people to make phone calls on the road. But the mobile phone can do far more than make phone calls. This device can also be used to take pictures, use the Internet, instant message, play games, use other apps that just make life easier. The telephone is said to be the greatest invention of all time. It all started when Alexander Graham Bell invented this great device in 1876.
History JD
The history of the telephone is a broad and colorful. It has been around since the 1870s when Alexander Graham Bell, and many others, thought of the idea that we could talk to each other from various locations without having to send it in messages. The idea that Bell had was to connect the nation with communications to differnent cities and towns. He began experimenting with different telegarph machines and also Morse Code. Bell liked the basic idea of telegarphs, but believed that messages should not be limited to sending and recieving one message at a time. He originally only wanted to improve the telegraph, but Bell came out with a much more usefull device that changed the world. The telephone did not become relevant until the late 1800s. Until that time, the public would not give up telegraph, for it was the main way to communicate from city to city for over a hundred years.
On March 10, 1876, the era of the telegraph had ended, when Bell talked to his assistant, Watson, in another room using the telephone. Bell said, " Watson--come here--I want to see you." not only did Watson hear him, but he came to Bell, at Bell's surprise. These were the first words said on the telephone. It had worked!
Present
Through years of research and development, phones have become more technologically avanced. Since the 1940's, the idea of the mobile phones has grown to such an extent that now there are "smart phones" that have internet and cameras built into them. There is no longer the need to always use the computer at home or carry around a big camera when these smart phones have all the features that these other inventions have. House phones have also become more advanced with wireless phones that charge on a receiver that will charge it for you while it also takes messages or missed calls. Now with these communications you also know who is calling because the name now shows up before you answer it. Phones have become an neccisity to many people in today's world who think they can't live without it.
